I first travelled to Japan in 1985 where I spent weeks exploring and photographing the side streets of Ueno, one of Tokyo's oldest residential neighbourhoods. The resulting collection of several hundred black and white snap shots remained ignored in a box on my studio shelf untilI returned from another trip to Tokyo in October, 2012 when I discovered how little I had seen in 1985 still remained.
